Chad, theres no shortcuts unless theres a big hole thats been cut in the hood top so you dont have to remove the muffler like many used to do.

Remove the steering wheel and the shafts half moon woodruff key,,,,, remove the front top nose crown sheet medal medallion etc. so you can get to and remove the two front horizontal bolts to remove the front bearing end cap on the front top of steering pedestal,,,,, ,,,,,remove the packing nut on the steering shaft out of the pedestal,,,,, ,,,,,unscrew and remove/pull out forward the entire long steering shaft,,,,, ,,,,, remove the muffler,,,,, ,remove the choke n throttle rods as/if necessary,,,,, ,,,,remove gas line and any valves etc. from sediment bowl,,,,, ,,,,remove any gas tank vent lines or fuel gauge wires etc. (if it has any),,,,, ,remove the mounts and strap etc. that holds the hood n tank assembly to tractor and separate hood from front grilles,,,,, ,,REMOVE THE HOOD WITH TANK UP INSIDE IT (it comes out as one i.e. tank is mounted to/inside hood)

Im sure I missed some, but the basic is that you remove the hood with the tank still mounted up inside it.

It normally is, cuz the small opening hole in the hood is too small to allow it to pass through, unless the hole is enlarged and a patch installed like many did back in the fifties.

Duh,, the hood comes off before the muffler on a 1951 B. Can"t reach the bolts otherwise.
That"s why so many hoods got cut, to allow replacing the muffler without removing the steering shaft and hood.
