I need to hone my cylinders on my 35 B. When measuring the cylinders for wear what should be the measurement be for "safe" or not having to bore or sleeve. Couple other things. Where does anybody buy your hone? Napa, sears, Snap on? WHich is the best or best deal. How mcuh should it cost? What size do i need to buy for a 35 B? Also where should i pick up a ridge reamer? Where is the best price or best reamer? Thanks for your time.

37G, I don't have any official specs on the 35 B as far as piston to cylinder max wear before boring but would think around .007" would be about as far I would go.. A lot depends on what you want to use the tractor for & where the wear is in the cylinders, if the piston is a decent fit with just a little extra wear right at the very top where the top ring changes direction you can live with some extra wear for light duty usage.. If you have .007"-.008" wear down the bore a ways you will have piston slap & possibly excess blow-by.. You not only have to worry about excess piston clearance but also bore taper & out-of-round.. If you have a pronounced ridge at the top you probably have a fair amount of cylinder wear at the top..

~On your hone question?.. Most tool supply houses or better auto parts stores have decent hones for sale.. Again it depends what type of hone you need.. If just using a spring type hone for de-glazing the cylinders, those are available most anywhere.. If you need a good adjustable type hone for straightening out the cylinders that will be an expensive hone & it would probably be cheaper to have your local machine shop run them for you..

~For size??.. A good size automotive engine ridge reamer & hone should work as those early B's only have a 4-1/4" bore..

~You might want to pull the block out pistons & all, then once out, pull the pistons out the back of the block.. That way the ridge won't have to be removed before disassembly.. Then take the pistons & block to a trusted automotive machine shop.. They will have good quality measuring equipment & more importantly a good educated eye to evaluate the bore wear & piston clearance..

~While you have it apart check the ring side gap in the piston as that is as or more important for compression & blow-by control as anything..

~Another important place to check is for piston pin & piston pin bore wear [a common wear area].....

~I really can't help you on tool prices as most of my hones, reamers & measuring tools are well 20 or more years old.

Not Clooney but I'll try to help. I get my tools like that at my auto parts store, Napa, Orielly's etc. You will need a hone that goes out past 5 inches and yes you will probably need a ridge reamer. As far as cost I can only guess since its been 10 years or more since I have gotten one but for the 2 it shouldn't cost more then $75 and thats a high guess. By the way good luck on your B I also have a 35 B serial number 9405
