JD 3020 wiring

I recently bought a JD 500 Series A diesel backhoe which is the industrial version of the 3020,the wiring diagram should be the same as the 3020. the electrics are a mess. I bought the owners manual and tech manual from Deere (JD500A). The electrics and diagrams are totaly different from what I actualy have, for example: in both manuals is says the diesel has two six volt bateries, mine has two twelve volt (ET3), the voltage going to the starter in mine is 24V. The wiring should be the same as the 3020.
The alternater is a Delco Remy, the books says it should be a Motorola, the Delco has only one lead which looks like it went to the starter solenoid. I very much doubt that someone would change it to a 24V system. It starts and runs great.
I havent got it cleaned out enough to find the serial number, its full of mulch where its suppose to be, I need some above freezing weather to clean it up. From what I get off the parts and cross reference it to JDParts website, it looks like its a -123,000. The serial numbers are combined in with the JD 3020. Is there a place online that would have the correct wiring diogram.
It does have the "John Deere 500 Series A" decals on it. I originaly posted this as JD 500A, but think more would be familiar with the 3020.

Hello Ken. I have the diagram you need. I will take me until this weekend to get it, as it's up with the tractor a few hours from here. By the way, I finally got the standard JD500 operators manual for mine, so if you are still looking for the 500A ops manual I'll send it off to you. When I got my 500 I also bought a used 3020 shop manual as well. It has diagrams for a variety of models and is very helpful. You tractor is definitely 24 volt, as is mine. Gauges and lights are all 12 volt. The starting circuit isolated from the frame, and the cable that tied the bateries in series is tied to the frame as well. So anything from frame ground is only 12 volts.

Let me know if you want the 500a ops manual. I'll make copies of the electricls I have and send them as well.

Thanks Jim, I didnt hear from you so I bought the ops manual. I'm going to have to pick up the 3020 manual, Deere doesnt have the early 500A tech manual. My unit has a Delco alternator with only one wire comming off it stamped BAT next to the terminal, I'm guessing it has a built in regulator.
One of the first things I'm going to do (when it warms up some) is rebuild the swing cylinder. Its a barrel type with rotor, not sure where its leaking at.
Another wierd thing is the solenoid, it spins but doesnt engage, I thought maybe because it was so cold (it stayed below zero for quite a few days) that the oil was too thick on the bendix. Then one day it got up to 18F and it still just spun, I took a hair dryer to the solenoid and warmed it up, gave a shot of ether and it engaged and fired right up. That was a relief, there aint nothing on this tractor thats cheap.

My apologies for not getting back to you earlier. Yes, I find that Deere didn't quite just switch over to new models. Seems they make alot of changes to a model back then, and then at some point give it a new model number. Technically the 500A had individual rams on the swingarm. Mine has the barrel type as well, gladly it seems to work great. I'll look forward to what you find out. The electronics on mine is also a mess, but it starts and runs. All the gauges are broken. I can get all the dash instrumentation (including the tach) new for about $500.00, except for the fuel gauge which is not avail anymore. The tech manuals are indeed tough, just keep looking at ebay for anything JD500. My alt. is a Motorola, but also has wires not connected to it that are there in the harness right next to the alt. I've put 22 new hydraulic hoses on it, and replaced every filter it has. Some of the stuff not too bad. Oil filter was $4.00, powershif filters were $8.00 each. The air filter was $32.00 though. New muffler and Pre-cleaner for the air intake as well. By the way, all of the rubber seals on the backhoe hyd. valve levers were either gone or destroyed on mine. I was able to get all of the seals, brackets (even the screws) for it to clean it up and help keep water out of it. I'll get thr wiring diagram scanned in and email it to you next week if that works for you. Keep us posted on your progress, hope you warm up soon!

The two 6v batt's were for the later tractors with 12v system not the 24v system you have. I would take the manual back & get the correct one, as there are several differences in the two tractors. What is it you are looking for ?

Thanks Wimpfarm,thats the website I started at, I coulnt find them there and emailed them. They refered me to the link below. The only tech manual listed was 123,000, I assumed it ment before that number. What I need to do now is order a 3020 manual. These things are expensive, I was hoping to get a diagram somewhere on line, or some help on this forum. Thanks
