Anyone know of a good mower that would work on a 60? I have a big piece of ground that I want the grass kept up on. I have a brush hog, but I am looking for something that cuts the grass finer/cleaner/shorter.

Alex,

What you are looking for is often called an "Estate Mower". I tow one behind my old 50. It uses the 540 RPM PTO shaft to turn 3 blades. I think the overall cutting width is 60 inches. I've seen them as wide as 72 inches. The mower I use is made in Italy by Caroni, but similar mowers are made by Woods etc.

I have to use this particular mower to trim up the various horse pastures and so it gets a pretty good beating. If you keep the blades sharp however it does a very nice job of cutting the lawn. The trick is sharp blades, plenty of PTO RPMs and a nice slow gear to give it time to do it's job.

I would think any AG dealer would have estate mowers.

There is a nice 7' landpride mower for sale on ebay...located in Illinois. I know this would work good on the 60.

I like using a flail mower as you can cut taller stuff than a finish mower. If you have it cleaned up and want to mow often you may want to go with a finish mower if you really want it to look nice.
