Can someone tell me an equivalent to Deere 303 hydraulic fluid? Manual says that's what should be used in Trans / hyd system. Is 303 a light, medium, or heavy viscosity? The guys at the local Deere shop had no idea what Deere 303 was....

Thanks!

jim P

I have seen 5-gallon buckets of stuff advertised as 303 equivalent at my 'Autozone.'

Use John Deere Hy-Gard. That is what replaced the old 303 hydraulic oil, and it meets all former and current specs for hydraulic/transmission oils in JD tractors. At least for everything built since 1960 anyway. The Low-Viscosity Hy-Gard is intended for extremely cold temps and use in hydrostatic transmission systems.

Check Mother Deere's prices, sometimes she is even better.

Don't know where you are but if you have an O'reallys auto parts store there they have 303 under there own name. If meets most tractor company specs.

I believe 303 is equivalent to regular Deere hy-gard or "universal tractor fluid".

Deere also makes the lower-viscosity cold-weather hy-gard.

Here's a link for a non-OEM version, with specs.:
