I have a John Deere 50 that had about 800 hours at the most and was perfectly origional with the origional shutters and everything, the only thing thart was wrong with it is that it had been sitting for thirty years and was stuck. We had some stuff called "Aerokroil" or as we called it kroain oil, this would soon become our new best friend, anyway we sprayed some of that stuff down each cylinder we jacked it up and turned the back tire and and the fan started to move and freed up! After many hours of cleaning and painting we tried to start it and without any ether it started right up I ever heard so I thought we came out lucky on that one what do you think?

My son bought a 43 A last summer and it was sitting outside about a mile north of me since the early 1970s. The old guy would never sell it and claimed it would run but he had not started it since a rim had rusted out. He did turn the flywheel quite regular. My son bought it at his estate sale ($80) and we pulled it home. He put a cap , rotor and plug wires on. Took the carb off cleaned the bowl, pulled the valve cover, rockers and tapped on the valve stems. One was stuck so he P B blasted it and filled the engine with diesel for a couple of weeks. Valve was loose when he looked at it again so he put the rockers and valve cover back on. Fresh oil,a gallon of gas and we belted it up to the B thinking we would put the new plugs in after we spun it to get all the diesel out and it fired right up (on the old plugs). A little carb adjusting and he ran it for about a half hour. I thought that was lucky. He got the original flat spoked steel wheels, block, head, pistons,(The engine was redone in the 1960"s and it was used very little) and the grills that they took off when it was new and kept in the house. Said he spent about $100 to get it running

You have discovered the one penetrating oil worth bringing home. I buy Kroil direct from the manufacturer as it is not sold retail and is far, far better than any other penetrating oil that I have ever used. Still, thirty years is a long time so I would think that you are quite lucky.

Did you check the compression to see if the rings were tight? If so, what did you find, and did the cylinders agree?

I think anything that sits for thirty years and starts right up is very lucky.
