Watching RFD TV and the man said when he restored his JD B he put in "cylinder inserts". Said they were held in by the inside of the spark plug hole??? Said it really upped the compression??? Anyone heard of these....still available???
can they be used with domed pistons??? Very curious.....thanks.....

770, those are commonly called doughnuts as they kind of resemble a doughnut.. Basically they are a ring that sits in the top of the cylinder above the piston. That ring decreases the size of the combustion chamber therefore raising the compression.. They usually have a cutout for the spark plug to fit in & hold them in place.. (usually a longer spark plug is also used to reach in farther to hold the ring in place)
They do work somewhat to raise the compression & were mostly used in all-fuel tractors as a cheap way to raise compression when the tractor was used on gasoline. Personally I dont like them so remove them..
