I'm looking at buying my first John Deere and my first backhoe. The machine is a 302A diesel with factory loader and backhoe. It does not have wheel weights or filled tires. Can anyone tell me the approximate weight? The owner says about 8000 lbs. It looks like alot more than that. It is a stout looking machine. Are there any special problems to look out for? There are no welds or stress cracks on loader or hoe It has 8 speed with reverser. Everything seems to work as it should with no strange sounds smoke or leaks. Don't know the hours as there is no tach or hourmeter, just a hole where they once were. I've seen 2 year old machines on dealer lots that look worse. He's asking $6500 and I think it should be worth it. What do you think?

Thanks for response. Local JD dealer has info on 300 series and told me 10200 lbs but had nothing on 302A. I guess they must be similar, think the 302A is older, but that's a strange progression for model numbers.
God bless you
Jim

I think you better pass on it. P.S. send me his number.I don't think that any on e-bay are that cheap the tractor and loader without the hoe if good shape are probabally worth that.I would also guess that it is heavier 12000 lb ?

Hey Mike...I have been searching ebay for a year looking for an affordable hoe. Getting too old for the shovel bit. I have looked at dozens but most are junk, too heavy or too expensive. Just need a farm machine. Might have to consider getting a bigger truck.

Are you planning on hauling it alot ? You should be able to haul it with a heavy 3/4 ton with a gooseneck trailer.

Not a lot Mike. I have a superduty F250 diesel and a Eager Beaver equipment trailer rated for 13,300 GVW in good condition. I figure I could haul 10,000 lbs without stressing anything too much. I have a property about 200 miles from my home where I would like to drag the hoe a couple times a year. It's been impossible to find anyone with good knowledge about what a 302A is. I found that a 300 weighs 10,000 lbs but don't know if the 302A is bigger or smaller, older or newer. Local JD dealer has no record on 302A

I don't know for sure but I would guess it is the same as a 300 but newer.
