My dad bought a JD R about 2-3 years ago. The paint was awesome (altho i"ve seen better), the tin was ok, and the pup and deisal both starter and ran beautifully. He paid 5000 for it. i wish i was him. Let us know if u get it

The cab is a bit of a rarity, but in my humble opinion, unless I was going to be using the tractor in harsh weather, I'd rather not have the cab at all. And yes, that price sounds plenty high for an "R" with some known mechanical issues. I've seen a lot of nicer "R"s listed cheaper, and even several nice 820s and 830s for less money than that.

For that kind of money, you could get a number series diesel that has all the "modern" bells and whistles. You could more easily find replacement parts, too. Even with the cab, would think that $3500 would be pretty steep. That being said, I can understand the allure of an R. Have one in the shed myself. Think that you could wait and get one in similar shape for a better price. Kind of wonder what is being covered up with the fresh paint. Who knows, if it sets there for a while, maybe the price will go down.

$7,000 is pretty steep. You can easily put another couple of thou in it. Most parts are obsolete and there is not a lot of reproduced parts being made. Most will have to be gotten from salvage. We paid $3,500 for an R a few years back and have put another $3,000 plus into it it already. If the pony needs repairs open up your wallet real wide.

In my opinion, the seller wants about 2 to 4 thousand too much.
