Deere 1020 fuel shutoff solenoid

The wire on the fuel shutoff solenoid on my 1020 broke a few months ago. The manual indicates that the adjustment needle can be reversed to bypass the shutoff, but the one on mine could not be removed. I finally bought a new one for about $130. Now that one apparently has failed, and the needle cannot be reversed on the new one either. Question: Is this solenoid really needed for safety? If not, is there a resonable way to override it?
Thanks,
CB

Deere parts also has the part#RE19406 {$9.63}which is a manual adjusting screw to replace the solenoid #RE19408

Many of those solenoids have had the needle end clipped off, when they go bad.

If you let the engine cool down a bit before shutting off the switch, so it doesn't "diesel" or backfire, you'll never miss the solenoid.

Thanks. Now I understand why the solenoid is there. But I still don't understand how to override it. Mine does not appear to disassemble.

Depending on the exact variation of carburetor you have, Deere part #RE19406 adjusting screw @$8.75 may replace the $130.00 solenoid with a manual adjusting needle.

As the other guy mentioned, it's only an anti-dieseling solenoid and not a safety item. When I worked as a Deere mechanic, we used to throw them in the garbage. Yes, the older ones could be disabled, but the new shut-off solenoids are different. We replaced them with plain old mechanical adjustable main-jet assemblies and they worked fine. Don't remember off-hand what they were out of, but we got them right through Deere. I'm sure a good carburetor shop could also - or find a similar tractor with a similar sized Marvel Shiebler carb same model carb. and get the jet assembly for it. You've probably got the MS TSX-9045.

The John Deere part number for the manually adjusted replacement needle valve is AT23015. The last one I bought seveal years ago was $34.69. I have used these on a 2020, 2510 and a 3300 combine. They worked great on all of them. Just don't set the idle speed too high, or they can run on a little.

Not that I am recommending this, only telling you what I have seen done. Lop off the needle.
