I have a 74 4230 with a soundguard cab ( early serial number on cab), My seat is the common 3pc short back seat as used on 3020's 4020's etc. I see alot of 4230,4430,4440 etc with a fabric high back seat with arm rests. Can I convert mine to this seat? Do the high backs fit the mechanical suspension base? Or if I call a salvage yard can I put the air suspension in mine with the seat? Should I stay with current seat style? I need to replace the riped up seat anyway, though now would be good time. Thanks

I had a 4230 that the seat bushings were worn out in, it was a 73 model and we had put the high back fabric covered seat in. It was going to cost nearly $300 for all new bushings and hardware to rebuild the old suspension, so I had my dealer put in an electric powered air seat frame that was offered through Deere's parts catalog. If I remember correctly, it cost $527 at the time, they did have to cut out under the old frame and put in a piece to make it wider. Worked well and was much easier on my back.

the 'high back' seat's suspension is wider then the regular seat suspention. i don't remember if there is room in the older cabs for the wide suspention. it should be checked. ask your dealer about air suspention. remember that the seat is attached to the rear of the cab, so if you replace seat style you have to replace the comlete seat.
