hi guys.my pony motor is blowing some oil and i dont quite have the resources to rebuild it but it starts easy enough so i'm going to leave it alone. The problem is that the oil is coming out of the joint where the exhaust pipe enters the main engine air intake manifold. It is only coming out with vibration of the main engine, runs back along the exhaust and drops down on the block of the main engine leaving a oil all over it,making it look bad.My parts book shows no seal at either end of the pipe,so can i seal this up some way/how do i remove the pipe/take the manifold off the pony? Thanks,

John

As Dan said. If the starting engine is in sound condition and tune. The smoking and oil blowing isn't a concern. Hitting on all four cylinders and clean slightly heavier straight weight oil goes a long way.

John,
I have two 70 D's, one smokes and blows oil worse than the other. I have been trying every thing short of a complete rebiuld. Lately I replaced my coils, although the pony runs fine, and it seems to run better and does not blow oil near as bad as before. My ignition parts man talked me into changing the coils after we discussed the problem. Glad I did now.

I would try hi temp silicone. I have used the red stuff on other exhaust repairs. Whatever you decide, make it something that will come apart if the need arises down the road (field) LOL.

On my 720, I use Permatex hig temperature sealant. It is orange and works like a charm. Just apply a liberal amount to both ends of the pipe and fish it into place. I have let the pony run for extended periods with no adverse effects.

John:

You remove the pipe by sliding it into the manifold of the pony. It can be a chore. I have sealed several using a multitude of methods. One one I rolled some soft iron wire aounr the pipie, then tapped into the crotch using a blunt tool. On another I used some exhaust (muffler patch) glue that seemed to work all right. On another I stuffed some some old graphite impregnated packing rope into the joint and it held really well. It just has to be something you can in there and get out if you need to.

High temp. silicone sealer may stop it up.
