After all the good advise from this sight I have solved..(for the time being) my problem with my 3020 missing, spuddering, coughing , etc.
I had rebuilt the carb. nothing. cleaned gas tank. nothing. replaced fuel pump, distributor cap and points. nothing. So..I replaced the condensor and the plug wires. BINGO!!!
Thanks to all... I learned a little more about this tractor..

Glad you got it going ! I was surprized to see that didn't put in a condenser before ? I guess I just assumed you had when you mentioned cap and points ?

When I called J.D. Dealer and asked for the stuff to tune it up. I said you know the Distributor and all the rest..I assumed they would put that in. however..they didnt and Dummy that I am just never thought a little thing like that would make such a huge difference..lesson learned ...not to mention chatting with my J.D. Dealer next time.

Thanks again...

That's what I love about working on this stuff, always a new lesson around the corner somewhere. You had an adventure because of an old condenser. Don't take it too hard or blame anyone. I had a similar adventure because of a defective NEW condenser. Just because it is old doesn't make it bad or just cause it's new doesn't make it good either. I do still lean towards the new having better odds of being good.
