John Deere R Pony Problem

The pony motor on my R will not start. It hasn"t run in more than 25 years. The magneto is working and timed properly. I know it is getting spark to the spark plug. I know the gas line works. I"ve gone through the carburetor, all holes are open and all disc-plates are fine. The only two things that I"m not sure of is the governor linkage and where the gas line meets the carburetor. This tractor is after serial #7900 so the throttle is automatically set. If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE HELP!

an R pony is apretty simple setup,wher the gas line meets the carburetor is the meetering valve and on some later tractors also fuel shutoff. make sure both are open .also on older engines that have not been run for a while alittle oil added to cylinders helps get commpression up as well as lubricated. an engine only needs three things to run, fuel( in right quanity),commpression and spark( at the right time). fuel can always be added via squirt can.

Since you know itis getting spark, it sure sounds like a fuel problem. Have you tried a short burst of ether down the throat of the carb to see if you can get a few pops out of it that way? If it does, you'll know you have to find the fuel problem.
