Has anyone redone the hood on a 4630 and been able to fix it so the turbo doesn't burn the decal off the hood by the turbo? It seems that everyone I see is like that. I want to replace the decal, but would like to keep the same thing from happening to the new decal. Any tips? I would also like to know where to get replacement decals for the hood, other than the 85.00 set at John Deere. I didn't find any here on YT. They didn't have any that I saw for that new of a model.

Or you could turn her down a little bit! in reply to okiedirtfarmer, 10-15-2004 19:04:42
You must have your old fine unit cranked too the max for that tractor to burn the decal off the hood. I had one cranking 180 and had no problem with the hood paint being burned off.

Its only set at the top ond of the specs. I put a new injection pump on just over a year ago and had it set at the top of John deere specs. I don't use it near as much for primary tillage work anymore so I didn't see the need in cranking it up.

IF there is room between the turbo and the hood, spot weld a sheet of metal in between the two parts splitting the difference, leaving the top and bottom open .The heat will cause a draft on the backside of the sheet and constantly pull up cooler air that will keep the decals from scorching.
I used the idea on a Ben Franklin stove that was set very close to a wall except I used two sheets spaced about 3/4" apart. You can lay your hand on the outside sheet when a fire is raging in the stove. Its amazing how effective a heat shield can be.
