I would like to know if a hot plug will make the engine run warmer than a cold plug?
Thanks much,
John

Hi John in IN, Im also a John in IN, down Bloomington way, where r u located??? Gerald has ya covered on the hot plug question, theres also many people who think hotter plug means a hotter spark, but as Gerald explained the hot refers to its ability to transfer heat.

No. The heat of the plug is not the heat of the engine, its the heat of the tip of the ceramic insulator. A hot plug has a longer ceramic between the center and the ceramic mounting, poorer cooling so it runs hotter. Burns off carbon better, but if it gets too hot it causes preignition that can burn a hole in the piston.

Lean mixture can make an engine run hotter, late ignition combined with lean can burn exhaust valves and make the manifold glow.
