JD 2020 Selective Control Valve Rebuild

Help! I know that the Selective Control valve needs adjusted but the shop manual calls out a JDH-15 adjustment plate. Does anyone know what the specifications are for this plate so that I can adjust the pressure valves and return valves to their correct position? Or is there some other method to adjust these valves.

I've done plenty of them out in the field with no measuring tools (steering valves and selective control valves). In general, as long as there is clearance on all valves when in a neutral position, and . . . when you operate the unit the return valve opens slightly before a pressure valve, the unit will work (assuming there is nothing else wrong with it). The original valve spools and seats were steel against steel and needed to be resurfaced once in a while. Then Deere changed over to a valve spool with a soft material coating. It seals somewhat better but is prone to getting debris stuck in it.

You could make a plate like that easily enough, or you can adjust the valve without the plate if you're careful. That plate bolts on where the end plate bolts onto the valve, and it has a screw that can be tightened above each valve to hold it against it's seat so you can adjust the lever travel. It also has a fifth screw that can be used to lock the detent follower in place when you set your dial indicator. You really don't need that fifth screw- it would work well enough to make a plate with a threaded hole and a hold-down screw above each valve. If you want to adjust the valve without the plate, you fully assemble the valve, then set the lever travel by feeling when the cams hit the valve followers. I've never messed with an SCV from a 2020, but if it uses a JDH 15 plate, then it's likely pretty much the same as on a 4020. I usually adjust them so that the lever travels about .025 before hitting each return valve, and about .065 before hitting each pressure valve. A couple of old timers at work set them looser than that.
