I have the left final drive off my 6030 cause the oil seal was leaking and was wondering is there a specific way to preload the rear axle bearings ? Just don't want to be tearing it down again after all the work. Thanks in advance.
Chris.

You need to get yourself a service manual - beg, borrow or steal one, for the proper assembly instructions. I haven't been into a 6030 and don't have a manual here, but if it's like other Deere final drives on that size of tractor, there is a preload spec. On say a 4840, you assembly the final drive with two lead balls (available at your Deere dealership - they also come in final drive bearing kits)-located between the heavy washer and the axle end. Hold them in place with heavy grease. You torque to a specific amount, and then disassemble. You then measure the thickness of the balls (they will be flattened some) with a micrometer and average the thickness. You then build a shim pack that thick to provide proper bearing preload, and reassemble the final with those shims installed. Finally, you do a rolling-drag-torque test to make sure the preload is correct. You'd also better have a BIG torque wrench, as you'll probably need 200 ft. lbs. or more when establishing your shim pack, and probably more than 500 ft. lbs. for final assembly. And DEFINITELY use a new bolt. Final drive parts aren't cheap and they're not particularly fun to do over, so I highly recommend using the correct procedure.

Fishing sinkers work great for getting a shim thickness.
