We are in need of the idler bracket that the idler pully attaches to on a horizontal tensioner.
Ours was lost in the yard and we cannot find it, and JD says they are no longer available.
Any help greatly appreciated. We could make one if we had the dimentions. Thanks and God Bless

Joe

I emailed a guy in Michigan that I have bought Deere LGT parts from in the past, and he thinks he MAY have what you need. I emailed him a scan of the parts book page showing the part, so he knows what you need.

He said he is unable to look for the part until Thursday, and I replied that if he found it I would put you guys in touch with each other.

Email me, if you still need the part.

If this is a JD Lawn & Garden tractor, the 420 is of fairly recent vintage and I have trouble believing that the part is no longer available. How about checking the JD Parts web site to see if your JD Parts counter guy is giving you the straight skinny. If you'd give a more detailed description of the part, exactly where it's uded and the serial number range of your tracor I'd be glad to look it up for you and find out about part availability in case you can't get the Parts web site to work for you.

My apologies to your JD parts guy. Apparently he's telling it like it is. The part mumber AM39257 is shown in the parts book for a 420 and indeed was a good part mumber, but is now "invalid", which means no longer available. It seems to be a clevis made of flat stock, welded to the end of a short shaft to form sort of a "Y" shape. The shaft then has a snap ring groove in the end opposite the clevis. If you could find the part, or even take the parts to which it mates up to a weld shop, I'm sure they could make you another. Perhaps you could make it yourself by substituting threads and a lock nut for the weld and threads and a nut for the snap ring that goes into the groove. Maybe you could borrow the pat from another 420 to use as a pattern to make a new one. Good luck.

Hi Leon
I want to thank you for your help and interest. I think you go beyond the call of duty!!!
I will try to find someone with a 420 to have a look. I found a 430, but it is altogether different than mine. You explain the part acurately. With mine being lost I'm sort of out of luck as for diameter and length. I have an idea though, to get belts that fit tight and forget the idler, what do you think? Thanks a bunch, I appreciate your help. Yours Joe

I doubt that you' will have much luck with trying to get and install exact size belts and get by without the idler. Perhaps I'm wrong, but belts do stretch!
