Be sure to check the Intake/Head port location..mine were way off, and had to be ground to match... Especially, the intake port was way smaller at the outlet, to the head, so there was plenty metal to work with...would help power a lot I would think....!! I left the heat control "Cold", and used a stainless Steel plate the same thickness of the compressed gasket--- in place of the Rt side gasket, to block off the heat from getting into the heat jacket from the Rt side..now it Has to run cold..!! And, the intake heat jacket isent going to fill up and split open, like it had before..!! I put plenty graphite paint and anti-seeze on the heat valve to keep it from sticking in the future, too..! Use Hard bolts with anti-seeze, and re-tighten them after they heat several times, and tighten while HOT..!! I left the bolts on the side with the stainless steel plate only moderately tight, so it can move with expansion ( double-nutted)... A little extra work while it is off can get you a nice increase in power, by paying attention to details... While you are at it, take the top off the air-cleaner inlet, and check for DIRT laying in there..!! Could be a bunch, and restrict air ...!!

Ron..

John, I recently replaced the manifolds on a 60. I checked into used ones, but unless you can actually go look at it, buying a used one if a bit scary (ie. un-reported cracks, broken studs) There were used ones out there, check the wreckers. I found that most vendors wanted as much for a used one as a new knock-off. In the end I paid lots and got them right from my JD dealer. You could get lucky though and possibly find a tractor with a recently replaced manifold but some other problems.
The intake and exhaust are 2 separate pieces, as well there is the heat exchanger valve. You might get away with only having to buy the exhaust portion if your intake is good. My own opinion is that if I am going to go to all that trouble, replace with new parts.
Good luck
BRent

I agree, replace both manifolds wiht new, use grade 8 fasteners and high temp anti-seize. Check for leaks 1st even on new castings. There has been at least two reports of "new" casting having flaws letting outside air being drawn into the engine instead of through the carb. Unless constantly working the tractor to it's last breath in hot weather. Set the heat divertor fully to "hot".
