I've been told that if the engine has not been run for a long time that the crankcase should should be flushed after the engine has been warmed up.Is it ok to use a mixture of diesel fuel and oil ?How much fuel should I use ? How long should I let it run before draining ?..Thanks..John...

John:

I have always used just diesel fuel. If you check your '60' book it will probably say distillate, but today #1 or #1 Fuel Oil or Diesel fuel is as close as you will find. My '70'D book says to remove the filter element (I don't do that anymore since mine is very clean) and run it for 5 minutes.

You will be amazed how much oil pressure it will maintain while you run it for a bit. Nice thing about diesel is that it is very oily. That's what lubricates the pump parts on a diesel engine, and they have very close tolerances.
