The Marvel-Schebler carb on my 1020 was replaced with a Zenith Carb. There is no shut-off solenoid on it and I get some deiseling. Is there a way to get a shut-off solenoid on this carb?Their are two sets of numbers on the tag on the Zenith carb 999 and 14996A.

Make sure the idle speed is set at the minimum recommended in your manual. It also helps oftentimes to richen up the idle mixture a little; more fuel evaporating helps cool down the glowing carbon that is igniting the fuel.

Try idling the engine for 3 minutes before you try to shut it off especially after working the engine a bit.Its possible that is all you will need to do.I think there are several applications of the solenoid that were used on a Zenith.Try a 55 corn special combine model equipped with a 303 gas engine. If my memory serves me correct that model used a solenoid on a Zenith carb.

your right about letting it idle down before shutting it off,it works most of the time but still does it occasionally.I'll check out the 55 corn special. Thanks for the tip
