Howdy. I would like to change my starter on my 1950 JD G to the new, lighter, gear reduction starter with a key switch or push button. Any experience on ordering the right NAPA starter and getting everything to work? (I want to lighten up my Puller.) Thanks.

Deere part number TY24439 will bolt on and work. $400 list from Deere. A parts store might be able to cross that number. It's a Denso unit. The weight is around 25 lbs.

Will that starter fit a 1951 JD A?

On the A's it will make a difference.. it is a top mounts starter almost any of the late model starters will work... (they do need to be the 3 bolt pattern for a small block Deere..) I think every starter I have has a different part number and they all fit on my G's and top mount A's... some are gear reduction starters.. some are straight drives.. on the reduction.. there are different part numbers for different angles of the offset for the motor of the starter.. but all I have tried have fit the G's and top mount A's..
Good Luck
