Kev, that 3/8" is way too much.. The spec is .005"-.010".. To re-set the crankshaft end play start by loosening the flywheel pinch bolts [actually I usually completely remove them & so I can check for thread stretching [a very common problem if those bolts were EVER over tightened] That flywheel on your tractor has migrated to give you 3/8 so check those bolts as they arent holding very good.. Then remove the clutch pulley cover & use a few blocks of wood & a small hydraulic jack [or use all wood blocks] between the R/H tire & crankshaft to force & hold the R/H center of the crankshaft [inside the pulley] ALL the way over to the left [flywheel side] of the tractor Then use a lead hammer or large hammer & block of hardwood to drive the flywheel all the way on the crankshaft tight.. Then remove the blocks of wood & jack [if used].. Then use a small hammer or hammer & brass drift to lightly tap the center of the crankshaft back through the flywheel [SLIGHTLY] until you get about .005-.010 of lateral end play when pushing & pulling on the flywheel. If you have access to a dial indicator set that up between the flywheel rim & main case.. If you dont have a dial indicator you can do it by feel.. .005-.010 is just the SLIGHTEST lateral movement [almost none] with the flywheel making a very light thunking sound when pushing & pulling on the flywheel.. If you get a louder clunking sound it is too loose yet.. Any questions just post back.. [email protected]
