I have a John Deere 50 I recently purchased and is missing the manifold(s). Is this a two piece manifold and does anyone know the best place to find one?

aj,

I've got a 1953 model 50 Gas that I recently replaced the manifolds on. It used a two piece setup which was pretty easy to find from the various aftermarket parts houses. I think John Deere still sells these manifolds although they can be kinda pricey. I believe the aftermarket units are cast off shore and some say that these castings are not of the same quality as the originals. For what its worth I have not had any problems with mine for almost 2 years now.

You will need to replace the manifold gaskets, and probably the studs/bolts that hold them in. I broke 2 or 3 when I pulled what was left of the old manifolds off the tractor.

If you send a reply with your tractor's serial number and configuration (gas, all-fuel or propane) I can give you a better answer.

You should invest in the John Deere Parts Manual and Service Manual. Lots of good information for the money. It's also nice to have the original John Deere part number at hand. John Deere has a nice "Online" parts service where you can get pricing and availability information. I've found it very useful and its a free service.

Drop a reply if I can answer any questions for ya.

John

If the tractor is an all-fuel (how many fuel fill caps does it have?), it would take a one-piece manifold designed to heat the intake charge and keep the heavy fuel vaporized. If it's a gasoline or LP tractor, it will take one of two different two-piece units. You can check salvage yards for used ones, but old manifolds are usually pretty crusty, and the gasoline manifolds have an adjustable diverter for cold or hot weather operation that is usually thoroughly siezed. New reproductions are available from places like Abilene Machine, A&I, etc.

There is a 50 manifold listed on E-bay right now. Must not be for straight gas as it doesn't look like mine.
