cam gear location

I took cam gear off and did not mark it. It will fit three ways, how do i know the right way to put gear on cam and be in time, 52 JD G. Any help is appreciated, Ken.

Ken, I used to know what way the #1 cam lobe faced in relation to the crank throw but I have been marking those gears to cam position for so long now I forgot..

Unless someone has the cover off or just went through a green installation & can tell you, you will have to slide the flywheel back on [just a little ways] then turn the flywheel until the [L/H Ex Open] mark lines up with the case mark [at 3 o�clock directly behind the flywheel], then install the cam & gear so the far L/H exhaust lobe is just starting to lift the lifter [or in that vicinity. With those holes being 120� apart only one location will even be close]..

When you say far L/H exhaust, do you mean number 2 piston or number one piston. I will sure mark it next time i take one apart, thanks for the info, Ken.

Ken, that's the exhaust valve on the flywheel side of the tractor..

Ken, you're welcome..

Don�t look at it as a �goof up�, look at it as a leaning experience.. You probably won�t ever remove a cam gear, flywheel, or other gear without marking it first..
