Hey Guys,

A week or so ago, I was asking about the power rating at the drawbar on a 3020 'cause my wife wants one (and she mentioned 3020 because this is what she thinks she used to own at one time).

I've already got a tractor that size, but could still use a bigger one at around 100 hp, so is the 4020D in this range?

Thanks again for your help in avance,

Allan

Allen,
I think the 4020 is about 90-95hp. I don't think you can go wrong with one. I have two of them. They are very comfortable and VERY DEPENDABLE. I don't know how they would pull compared to the IH. I do know I don't spend alot of time in my tool box working on them. Good luck.

Allan, I have had both a 4020 and a 966. The 966 will definitely out pull the 4020 but if you are putting in long days on the seat of one, the 4020 is a lot easier on the operator.

I have had a 966 A 986 a 4020 the 4020 had an old cab and no air but when it came time to go to the field I always had to fight my brothers for the 4020 it did have as much power They both had air and the 4020 still got used more .yuo might say it was more user friendly in my opinion

4020 is rated 94hp depending on your altitude. I know of one for sale for 4750.00 if you are interested let me know

Hey Thanks Pat,

Not trying to be a smart mouth, but will they pull with a IH 966?

The last JD I was around was a little 2010, as I recall.

Thanks for your help, the email has been uncovered if you have a line on a good one.

Allan

A 966 is a contempory of the 4230 (100hp)! The 94hp 4020 is more a contempory of the 806 and 856, both of which were deliberately built to be a good 5hp larger than the 4020. Very few Farmalls this size were actually left at factory hp ratings either. Owners like to CLAIM they got 155hp from the factory from a supposedly 100 or 115hp tractor, however. The 966 will be far cheaper and a lot newer than a 4020 also!
