Do these machines share the oil between the transmission and hydraulics? I have the dipstick at my feet in this old 410 it looks nice and clear like hyd. oil but looks like it is the same case as the rear end! Also this is the only numbers on it! Does anyone know what year this would be? 410D -333917T
Thanks for any help!

There are two backhoes being spoke of here. There is a 410 straight built in the 70's till about 1984. Then there is the modern 410D that I currently run everyday in my business. The old machine shared oil resevoirs with one dipstick at your heels. The modern machine splits the hydraulics off with a tank just ahead of the steering console under a hinged door in the hood. Both are and were great durable tractors.

All 410D machines are modern? Mine doesnt look modern and I have not yet found any hyd oil tank but I will look forward of the steering now that I have this info. My machine does have the dipstick at my heels? I guess I should be able to run the number someplace and find out what year it is and a little more about the systems! Thanks for the info.

If you have the dual range trans in the floor and reverser under the left side of the steering wheel, then you have what everyone calls a "Straight 410". Which means no "D" in the decal designation on the tractor. Also if it will choke out in gear with the brakes on you definitely have a "straight". The new ones are torque converter like your car.

funny thing is that the tag does read 410D maybe they had an early D model? I do have the high low range (two sticks on floor) and the reverser under the left side of steering wheel.
On that reverser did I read someplace out here that it's intended use did not require use of clutch to change direction? I am using clutch but thought I read that out here?
Thanks to all for the important info!

The reverser as Deere calls it (power shuttle on Case hoes) was designed to shift on the fly with no clutch needed. It was more for stopping the machine to change gears ( trans is not syncronized
) or in repeatative chores requiring you to slow down as in loading a truck for instance. If the pressure is adjusted right it will shift between forward and reverse sharply but not enough to jerk your head back. You want it to shift abruptly to make the clutches last longer. So do your shifting after the rpm's drop to near idle. As to the "D" problem, The next model after the straight was, logically called 410B of which I bought one new in 1984 and kept until the 410D I now own. Yes, They had a 410C in between. Hope all this helps.

The transmission and hudraulics are one and the same...transmission is the reservoir for the machine hydraulics....As far as the year...I don't know..doesn't really matter except for a personal curiosity..all parts needed rely on serial number.
