just got done pulling the wheels and getting into the rack and pinion rear wheel adjustment on a 1020. Of course it was all froze up with 30 years worth of corrosion. It was an all day job for two of us. I followed the instructions I found on this board got it all working. Thanks
I never did pull the pinion shaft or gear out. Has anybody done that?

Sure, lots of them.Drive it out with a large hammer and punch after you have moved the wheel out enough to expose the teeth of the pinion. To reinstall the pinion using the same hex shaft, peen the 2 keyways just enough so that it will fit tight when it is driven back into the pinion or the shaft could fall out sometime later.

Thanks for the info. I thought it probably drove out, couldn't see anyother way it could come apart, but didn't want to beat on it without being sure
