We pulled a couple of weeks ago and did great in some lighter classes (8,100 & 8,600). We loaded up for the 9,600 adn 10,600 and didn't get 100' down the track. (We've pull in these classed before and have alway finished very well) The tractor sounded like it was in second gear. It never gained full rpm. Recently, we had the carb overhauled. Additionally, we added an electronic ignition but we haven't touched the inside of the distributor. I don't think it's a fuel problem. I'm wondering if it could be in the distribuor weights or possibly the govenor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't understand why you want to again fix something that isn't broken. If you have told the whole story that you have made only two changes, 1.) overhauled carburetor and 2.) electronic ignition and now are having problems why would you think you now have governor problems?

I would suspect the carburetor load adjustment isn't set right and possibly the electronic ignition may not be set right. That is where to start diagnosing this problem. Why would the governor go bad when you messed with the carburetor and the ignition?

JDVan,
I'm assuming that something other than the spark and fuel because it ran perfect the first two pulls. We just added more weight. Other competative tractors that moved up in weight classes along with us did considerably better thatn we did. Something that I didn't consider that was brought up, is the possibilty that someone else adjusted on the carb. between weight classes. It's a possibilty. Thanks for your input.

JDVan has some good points. How far did others in this class go. Was it late and the sled folks were ready to go home, so they upped the sled an extra gear or two. Maybe someone adjusted the carb for you between classes. I don't understand how you installed an electronic ign. and didn't mess with the dist. Did you use the point and condenser eliminator or an MSD box or both?

Super Lurker,

I didn't consider the possibilty that someone adjusted the carb for me between the classes. That makes more sense than anything. It ran great in the first 2 classes and then just fell apart.

We dynoed the tractor after the carb rebuid and ingnition installation and made necessary adjustments while it was under a load.

Other competative tractors in the class went significantly further than we did so, it don't belive it was a sled issue.

Thanks for your input.
