I'm curious to what type of cutoff saw you use to cut axles

Just a regular Makita chop-saw. The kind that uses those 10- or 12-inch disks. You have to take your time, but if you have a few guys to do it, it works well and you ned up with a much better cut than you'll ever get with a torch.

Thanks for the info G-MAN. I wasn't sure if you were talking about a portable band saw or a chop saw. I can probably find a chop saw to borrow. About how many discs would I expect to use to cut a 3" DIA. axle?

If you use good disks and take your time I doubt if you'd completely use up one disk.
