46 model B pushrod tubes

As I understand it,the brass pushrod tubes would be used to separate the course of two pushrods from coolant flow. I have two brass pushrod tubes, each about 3/4 inch in diameter. They will easily fit in any hole on my newly overhaued cylinder head. Tractor SN 184261, 1946. In none of the coolant chambers can I find a "cavity" that would connect the path of the pushrod to the coolant. By all appearances I can't see where I need this pushrod guide. I know the parts manual states that two are used and I have them in my posession. They are a little too loose for any of the holes on the head. I can't see where any of the holes have been modified. The tubes come close to fitting in one of four holes but they are too small by a 32nd to a 16th Might it be possible that the 46 head doesn't need the tubes?

Ken, I recently bought 2 pushrod tubes for my unsty B but found them slightly larger in dia than the existing. Did you buy the tubes that you have recently from Deere? easy

I had a '46 B, #177109 that had the pushrod tubes. I remember because that was one thing that we didn't replace the first time, and when we got the tractor back together, they leaded water water into the engine. So, we tore it back apart and replaced the pushrod tubes. Still had other problems, but I do know that mine had the tubes.

Ken here is a picture of the head off of my 1944 B after receiving it back from machine shop. If you will notice the two center passages are the only ones with the brass push rod tubes. The outer two push rod passages do not use the brass push rod tubes. This is just the way John Deere designed them. It is very common for the brass push rod tubes to leak water into your block. Hope this helps.

Ken, As posted below, I brought up my Model B Parts Book PC0330 for Styled Model B's, SN 60,000 to 200,999, and it shows the following:

PN AB 1284R, SN up to 95,999, 4 Sleeves used.

PN AB 2739R, SN B96,000 & up, 2 Sleeves used.

A 1946 B began with SN 179,788 meaning your head uses 2 PN AB 2739 R Pushrod Sleeves.

Sorry, Im unsure if any used NO TUBES however, this is just what my Part Book listed, no warranty its correct ????

Do you have access to a parts book ? I don't have mine handy but there are 3 or 4 different casting numbers that will fit and are all interchangeable from 1942 to 1952 on B's the later ones do not use push rod tubes. If yours has tubes in it now you should be able to see a parting line where they are in the head if not the holes are just bored into the head casting. These were redesigned to eliminate the need for push rod tubes.
