I'm new to this tractor, a 1020. Is it safe to leave this tractor running on a grade with it in park and in gear.

Pete, in gear and in park is how the 1020 works.

no loader

It can't pop out of gear when in park but I suppose it could come out of park.

going down hill in low gear by itself would be better than nuetral, maybe. At any rate it wouldn't be pretty

Not familiar with 1020's, how can it be in gear and in park at the same time...my 2240 has a park position with the two shifters instead of an parking brake. In any event, when in doubt, turn it off, all it takes is one roll-back for a serious accident...not worth it.

Does it have a loader? If so, you can point the loader bucket straight down and lower the loader bucket to the point where it is beginning to raise the front wheels. Leave it there while you dismount. Also have brakes set or Park selected. Tractor won't go anywhere. A good idea to do that anyway as a tractor can roll away with engine shut down in gear.
