Model B push rod tubes

I had the head rebuilt on my 46 model B. Purchased a set of brass push rod tubes. I can only find two holes for the tubes to fit into, but it sure isn't a tight fit. Why are these needed? Ken

Ken, after reading Mikes comment below, I brought up my Model B Parts Book PC0330 for Styled Model B's, SN 60,000 to 200,999, and it shows the following:

PN AB 1284R, SN up to 95,999, 4 Sleeves used.

PN AB 2739R, SN B96,000 & up, 2 Sleeves used.

A 1946 B began with SN 179,788 meaning your head uses 2 PN AB 2739 R Pushrod Sleeves.

Did your head have any in it before ?? Your tractor is new enough it could have a later head on it that doesn't use any at all.

Ken, I replaced mine in my 38 B and they were tighter than Dicks Hat Band. I recommend you place them in a freezer the night before installation and use the exact correct size bushing drivers. They keep water from entering the head and pushrod area, ie pushrod tubes.

Ken - I just did the 4 tubes on my 35 B, and assuming a 46 head is similiar, the four holes are at the very top of the head, all in a horizontal row.
Make sure you are looking at the top of the head - opposite side to where the lower water pipe screws in.

Those tubes are TIGHT, and should not be sloppy. I had to press out my old ones, and press back in the new ones. They are necessary to keep the cooling water in the head from pouring into the push rod area and into the block. In fact they are a common source for water in the oil problems if they leak or get a hole in one.

On mine, the two outer tubes are located under the exhaust studs, and if there is crud in the botton of the exhaust stud hole, and you are replacing the studs, it could crush the newly installed brass tube.

I really can't explain why yours are loose...are you sure they sent you the correct ones?
