Yesterday while at the Inlaws I saw a 1958 model 420. It hasn't been started in 2 or 3 years, one rear and one front tire are flat. It seem to be in fair condition. What should I offer for it ? Thanks in advance.

Johnny, the model will make a lot of difference as to value or rarity, such as W-S-T-U-V-H, ect. Slant steering, power steering, all fuel model, 3-point, live PTO ect.Tachometer, fenders, weights. An example: A restored 420-W, non-allfuel, new tires, with a nice restoration, and the above options, will bring 5500 to 6500, from most collectors looking for that particular model.

Wayne, This is a 420-S serial no. 134723. It is a gas burner. I'm not that familar with this model and was just wondering what would be a fair price to offer. Don't want to get burned and don't want to take advantage of father in law. What part of Tn are you from ? I live just off I-24 near the Montgomery-
Robertson county lines.

Johnny, I am in Cypress Inn, a small community on the Ala. state line near Florence,AL. I would say the model S has about the same value as a W. Just depends on which model a collector is wanting at the time. The 5500 to 6500 in top restored condition would be about right. You will have to subtract from that, according to the condition your model S is in. Just remember that 2 or 3 grand will dissapear in a hurry when buying parts, new tires, ect. Of course this is just my opinion, its hard to put a value on something you can't see or drive. I usually don't even try, but maybe this will give you a starting point....

At the Springfield, OH Polk auction there were 2 420S tractors sold. One was a slant wheel run but ugly (cherry bomb for muffler, 1 inch of grease covering the whole rear end etc.)went for 2900.00 The other one was a phase 1 that was painted to look like a phase II that brought 4500.00. It looked decent but not expo.
