When you see a tractor ad stating NO TAG, what are they saying? Where is the TAG on a JD L or LA?

It means it is missing the serial number tag. The L series tags are located on the rear end housing under your right leg as you sit in the seat.

Why are some tractors missing the tags ?

The tag on my 40-S is riveted on securely. You would have to intentionally take it off .

My Ferguson 30 still has the rivets but the tag is missing .

Other than trying to cover up that a tractor is stolen , why would anyone remove the tag ?

Just curious.

The L and LA tags are infamous for being missing. Kind of rare to find one with the tag still attached. Because of tag location they were easily knocked off.

The axel housing, where the tags were located, was a favorite place to wrap a log chain to pull something.

Over the years I have had 5 "L" series tractors. Only 1 had a tag. An LI that I kept. The "L" series tractors are hard to get of and on to and I think the tags get kicked of by the operaters feet.
