Somes years back I purchased a 720. Didn't think much about it being an all-fuel untill later. Best I can tell it was shipped with a narrow front, float ride, power steering, one remote, powertroll, and live pto. Someone has changed to tractor to a wide front somewhere along they way but it is correct JD and not aftermarket. It is a row crop tractor. I have been told there were only about 50 of these tractors built. It is a 57 model. Not really interested in selling it I enjoy and use it too much to part with it but I am curious as to what it is worth and if I should park it in the living room until retirement age! I know value is a matter of how bad someone wants it and how bad or how little the owner wants to sell but ball parks would be appreciated.

John, I can't help with the price but there were 408 row crops, 12 high crops and 80 standard 720s built as all-fuel. That would be on the rare list for me.

720 All Fuel; 1958 376CID DSL 7700LBS LO 2460, MID 3900, HI 4950 PER GUIDE MAY BE A STARTING POINT. A MORE FLEXIBLE TRACTOR IF US FUELS BECOME SCARCE. NO SENSE PARTING WITH A RARE
PIECE LIKE ALL FUEL.

It would be interesting to know if it still had the all fuel pistons or not a compression test could help to determine this. I don't think that letting them sit is the best answer either. If they are ran and worked regulary
by a careful operator and get the proper maintance
and stored out of the weather they can and do last several generations.

It is still an all-fuel. Both tanks hold fuel, selector works, manifold seems to be in the hot position and permanant. Would be nice to find a manifold for it that isnt stuck but I am sure that would be far more rare than the tractor. Pistons must still be all-fuel as it prefers Kero over gas. No doubt it is LOW compression.

Of the 408 made, didnt 200 or so get shipped to Argentina?

Thanks

Here it is: in the Mar-Apr 02 two-cyl mag. I count 292 exported. Of the rest, FL got most of them, 23; Where are you? Hope that helped some.

I am in FL but the tractor came from Michigan or somewhere far north of here. It followed a dairy man down here.

Sounds like it may be one of 116 in the US. That depends on how many are left and how many of those got converted to gas. I am sure with less than 40 HP most everyone that owned one wanted to convert to gas. By the late 50's distillant wouldn't have made much sense. Now Kerosene costs more than gas. Work per gallon/dollar works out about the same though.

Maybe I should park it in the living room and let it run everynight at supper? LOL!

Tractor gets used regularly and gets pulled quite a bit. Don't think I will do anything to it other than keep it as original as possible. Seems to be a little to rare to mess up. Have to find a 720 gas to 'modify' on.

Does 2 cyl club still do serial number lookups or can I go to the Deere archives myself?

thanks for the info,

John
