John Deer Model B clutch noise

Hi - I have a old B that makes kind of a high pitch nose when the clutch is engauged and the tractor is in gear (under load). If I pull the clutch in it stops. If I hit a bump the noise will kind of bounce with the tractor. Is there an adjustment I should make or is it normal. Thanks Kevin

Kevin, that depends on the noise.. A high pitched whirring noise is somewhat normal under load... Those gears are straight cut so are prone to being noisy.

It probably wouldn't hurt to pull the clutch & re-pack the bearing, check for bushing wear, & look for gear wear & the possibility of the gear migrating on the pulley hub..

There is a also a small bearing under a small cover just behind the pulley, those bearings tend to wear & get loose in the housing so it wouldn�t hurt to pull that cover & check that input shaft bearing for wear & looseness..
