I have a question on the 8V71 repowers on these tractors. What all is involved? Does the frame need stretched, or is the overall length pretty close? I know it will need adapters built, mounts, basic stuff, but as far as the structure and actually fitting the engine, how much rework is required?

Well chad ive been trying to find the same kind of info for over a year i have a 64 i think 5010 that broke the main web out of the block and I WILL NOT put 3-5000$ into another deere motor but will also not go 8v im putting a 6v71 in it plenty of power and i can turn it back to 175hp or so and probly never hurt any thing the stock motor wouldnt have with some common sense if you can do most of the work yourself and not have to farm out much you should be able to do it WAAAYYYY cheaper than another deere motor as everyone thinks there gold plated (the only thing a john deere diesel has in common with gold is how fast it sinks when used as a boat anchor ) please dont get me wrong i love john deere just in my opinion they never have built a real strong diesel since the 2 cyl. (and im not so sure about that one) anyway if you want email me and well toss around some ideas about this good luck mike

It's alot less work, cutting, hacking, tinkering, addapting to just bolt in a turbo 531 or 619. Doesn't look like hillbilly experiment either. It would cost the least money and headaches to just trade the 5010/5020 for a 6030. It's finals are built for the HP.
