52 A clutch driver

Pulled the clutch driver off, splines looked ugly to me, so I ordered a .030 undersized from Denglers. With the new driver came JB weld to help "fill in and insure a tight fit". Should I use it? It took 98% of the slop out when I put it on. And the registration mark is missing on the new one. I aligned the old and new up and it appears I am one gear tooth off. Will this make much difference? Thanks for your help.

Be leary of those undersized drivers. I ordered one from tricky nicky a few years back and it measured the same size as a new std. size aftermarket driver from a much cheaper source. That JB should help I patched one up for someone a while back makeing a one piece shim from a can and installed with JB to fill the gaps and it held up well. I just assembled the clutch and engaged it before the JB dried to make sure it was lined up.

Doug, you ask...

_If that new clutch driver isn't a 100% tight fit on the crank splines it will soon beat itself loose again so given your 98% instead of 100% tight I would suggest using the JB weld.. It can always be removed in the future using a lot of heat from a good hot torch….

_It will make a little difference in the engine balance.. The clutch driver is also a R/H crankshaft counter weight so should be properly installed.. Either use the old driver & match the weighted side up then make a new mark on the new driver,, or turn the crankshaft until the #1 [L/H side piston] is all the way forward & the L/H impulse mark on the flywheel lines up with the case mark [at 3 o’clock directly behind the flywheel] then install the new driver with the CENTER OF the heavy spot directly forward.. Note: this gives you the same position as Pappy said only it’s easier to line the L/H piston up to TDC as the flywheel/crankcase cover is marked for that..

Do you mean you are one spline off---??? If so, you will have significant vibration. Look at the clutch driver, see the weighted section---mark the center of it and put it toward the back of the tractor when the right piston is at the top of it's stroke.
