I've got a LX 188 that keeps blowing the upper 15 amp fuse on the back of the key switch. When it blows, there is no power to anything after the key switch (starter, ignition, idiot lights, ect.) I have no idea where to start looking for this problem. I have disconnected all of the wiring from under the dash and inspected it for bad spots, but after seeing how needlessly complicated the electrical system on this mower is, I thought I'd better ask about it. What exactly is that 15 amp fuse protecting? Can anyone post a wiring diagram? How exactly do the ignition and charging system work? I'm thinking of rewiring this mower as simple as possible, just to get by.

I had an LX188 do this about 5 years ago. There was a dead short in the ignition switch. Replaced the switch and stopped blowing fuses. Dealer said it was a fairly common problem, have you discussed with your local dealer?

Sometimes a fuse will blow from overheating because of a dirty or corroded fuse holder that makes poor contact and heats up, melting the fuse, rather than blowing it. Check yours out, and polish it up, if necessary.

If it still blows, remove covers and shields (engine "OFF") to expose as much of the wiring harness as possible an get up close to it with a good light, and examine for any damage, and tape up as needed.

If the problem remains, and you can't solve it, and it only blows occasionally, take a blown fuse to a REAL auto supply store, and have them find you a special circuit breaker designed to replace the fuse. Then, when it occasionally trips, it will reset itself. (There are circuit breakers designed to replace just about any configuration of fuse, if the guys at the auto supply are sharp, they will find one for you.)
