I posted a question a few days ago about a GP that I was considering to purchase. I have now included a photo this tractor. As I memtioned, the asking pirce is $3000. The seller claims that it is in good shape mechaninichally. However, it does need some obvious cosmetic work. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Art,

I was not able to view your picture. However, one of the most important aspects I look at when purchasing a new tractor to restore is how complete is the tractor and how useable are the parts. To me, it is not a major item whether the tractor runs or not, as long as all of the parts are there and are in a useable condition. I generally like to tear my tractors all the way down to restore them anyway. However, missing parts or unusable parts can quickly add onto the price of the tractor. Below are just a few items and approximate cost:
Reproduction fenders $400.00
Reproduction Gas Tank $350.00
Reproduction Air Stack $90.00
Rebuilt Mag $200.00
Ensign Carb $350.00
New Radiator Core $250.00
While I would admit that the monetary value of the tractor may not always be our first consideration, it would be wise to try not to put more into the tractor than it would be worth restored. From the different tractors I have seen on this site and others, the average value of a restored 1930 GP might vary from $4,500 to $6,000.00. Just my 2 cents.

I currently have a 1930 GP parts tractor and a 1929 GP that I am restoring.
