Andy, For $2200 I would at least expect the engine to be running. Without that it's nearly impossible to see what shape the transmission, PTO and Power-Trol is in. Manifold replacement is not real bad, though you should expect to have broken studs/bolts when you try and remove the old manifold. As a matter of fact, get used to broken bolts and learning to drill out the old bolts and using a tap to make new threads (or use Heli-coils). There are various tricks that help keep a rusted bolt from breaking (penatrating oil and or heat) but you will break one eventually. Don't count on the radiator being okay till you run water through it. If its full and not leaking, thats a good sign but I can tell you my 50 had a full radiator and it was completely plugged. New cores are available but you have to take the radiator apart (it unbolts) and well... rusty bolts. The intake/exhaust manifolds are available as a set for around $200-$250. They are aftermarket castings but so far I've had good luck with them. There was a 3 point hitch from the factory (either the model 800 or 801 hitch). These are not real common and I'd guess most 3 points that are on the 50 are aftermarket. I bought one from Saginaw and am very pleased with it. That brings me to another point. Don't be surprised if the Power-Trol (hydraulic lift) does not hold in the "up" position or leaks oil into the transmission. Not hard to fix I'm told. I'll find out pretty soon as mine is getting pretty weak. Overall I think the 50 is a great little tractor. By all means invest in the factory service manual and the factory parts manual. Lots of parts still available either aftermarket or through Deere. Now about the price. These things are relative depending on where you are etc but a complete tractor with a non-running but loose engine with reasonably good sheet metal, okay tires (hold air), I'd expect to pay not more than $1000. Again it's relative and having the machine in hand is worth something since you don't have to have it shipped. Best of luck and drop a reply if you have any questions. John 1953 Model 50
