The steering is fine turning to the right, but when turning to the left it is real slow and the steering wheel drags. It gets better when the tractoris warm but is still a nuisance. I've been told that the problem could be either in the steering valve or the steering motor in the front of the tractor. Is there a way to narrow it down to either the valve or steering motor? thanks

John, The way you have described the problem I would bet that it is in your steering valve under the dash. The reason being you basically use the same cylinders / pistons to turn one way as you do the other only applying oil pressure on the opposite ends of steering cylinder pistons. If piston seals fail in the motor your symptoms will be steering drift and timing meaning front wheels will get out of sink with steering wheel position. Steering valve will need a kit, a few parts and a trained hand with some tools to adjust it. If you take it to a dealer expect about a day to remove, rebuild, adjust, reinstall and bleed the valve. That's how long it would take me and I have done many of them. Good Luck Dave W.
