I have a 2040 JD diesel tractor that dies when you try to drive it in high range. I have replaced the fuel filter and pump to no avail. The tractor was running fine until I notced a leak at the return line of the front injector. I replaced the seal and complete injector. the engine was overhauled about 6 months ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Justin

Justin I'm working on a 2040 now that we've repaced fuel filters rebuilt main pump.and it still misses and was dying shortly after starting.we diconnected the return line and it will run but still misses. We plan on replacing all injectors to see if this helps our problem, the return line was clear nothing any it we could tell, sounds like you have a problem in the return circuit as well if you come up with something give me a return message thanks Gman.

A john deere with no power???!!!!
How could that be?? DUH!
It has a tiny little gook-inspired diesel engine, with like 2&1/2 cylinders. To the novice tractor-enthusiast or horse-lover, the 2040 LOOKS like a tractor, but ah my friends, looks they be deceiving! The whole fron half of the tractor is mere sheetmetal and a coonish radiator. Where's the beef? its not to be found....cause its a deer.

I found the trouble. At the top of the injectors there is a T for the return fuel to go back to the tank. I saw a small amount of fuel leaking from one of them. I replaced the rubber o ring and that fixed the problem. I put out fertilizer for 12 hours today with no problems. Ethan I hope this helps you. Gman I dont know what to tell you, I'm sorry you dont like John Deere tractors.
My Best,
Justin
