Nate, I doubt it's the governor lever spring as that spring speeds it up not slows it down.. The governor is what slows it down.. If that spring was broken or cracked it would not want to rev up but would always want to run slow. ~Start by MAKING SURE the linkage rod between the governor arm & carb throttle lever is adjusted.. To do that hold the governor lever & carb at wide open & adjust that front rod to be to 1 holes short of entering the carb lever hole.. ~Once the linkage is adjusted & set correctly & checked AGAIN for any binding on the fuel tank, brackets, carb lever cotter pin, or pivots, then look for other problem areas.. ~If you have the later 620 it will have a screw through the governor arm.. Make sure that screw is adjusted correctly as that allows the hand throttle to push the carb to idle when the hand throttle is pulled to idle.. [I dont have the adjustment procedure handy but its in the book] .. If you look at it & move the hand throttle you will see how it works.. ~Other than that, try removing the linkage rod from the carb lever, then operating the carb by hand [engine running] while holding pressure on the front [removed] throttle rod.. You should be able to get the carb to smoothly go from idle to wide open & back to idle with ease & also feel a smooth even pull on the linkages rod as you operate the carb by hand.. If the rod action is jerky, non linier, lazy, or erratic then you probably have governor problems.. [email protected]
