Hey guys:

I sold my JD 4020 a couple of weeks ago and have began working on the ole Oliver 1900. Today, I just purchased a JD 435 off of my neighbor for $3000. Is this a decent price? The tractor has new rubber all of the way around and complete with pretty good sheet metal. He said that the PTO needs fixed. He said when you go to engage it, it wont engage, like the linkage or a clutch or something is out. He said it worked, he parked it for about a week, went out to brush hog and it didn't work. The tractor has manual steering, no hydraulic remotes, and a three point hitch. Isn't this an unusual configuration? Also, was a JD 435 Industrial produced? Thsi tractor is industrial yellow and there IS NO green underneath. This looks to be the original color of this tractor.

Thanks,

John

Well fella's:

It doesnt appear to be an industrial from the serial number. What can you tell me about a JD 435, serial #: 438924. Is there anything special about this tractor? It has 3 point hitch and 5 speed transmission. It is painted yellow and instead of having the green and yellow decals that say "John Deere", they are the stamped pieces that say John Deere that are silver and black like what a 440 has. Do you have any insight on this unit?

Thanks,

John

I would not sell mine for that price and mine is kinda rough. As for the configuration on yours, it sounds kinda standard for a 435. Mine has manual steer, 5-speed, no live pto, straight front axle and no remotes. I think 3-point was standard on them. They did make a few industrial ones, but not many. The way I understand it, the only difference between industrial and agriculture was the paint. Marv n nc

Guys:

I'll have to look it over some more and also get the serial number. I know that it does not have a float ride seat. It is a 435 with a 2-53 detroit. What is a swept back front axle? It does not stick out like the ones on the new generation tractors, it sticks behindthe front of the tractor towards the reear of the tractor. I'm unsure of the transmission, dont quote me on this but I believe it may be a 4 speed? I'll have to go look at it again, grab the serial number and check the transmission gear pattern

As I said, it is a 435 and there is no indication that it was ever green, I pressure blasted this tractor for him last fall to remove grease and of course, some paint came off. A couple of places it went town to bare metal and there was no green, just yellow.

Thanks,

John

The 440 industrial had different sheet metal than the ag 435. And there is no such thing as a diesel 430 either if someone asks. The swept back front axle does look better under a 435 than the regular straight "W" row crop utility axle. If it was an industrial unit then it was likely missed getting optioned up in order to meet a tendered price or to please an office bean counter.

You didn't say what kind of engine you had. Is your engine a John Deere or a 2 Cycle Jimmy engine. One of those screammers. If it is John Deere it is not a JD 435.

What kind of front sheet metal is on the tractor and front axle tie rod ends? A serial number trace through Two Cylinder Club could perhaps find a custom job number in the registry that would explain the colour. A true yellow 435 from the factory would be a super rare & great find. Float ride seat, swept back front axles, five speed etc? Uncommon to find any two cylinder Dubuques with remote hydraulics. $$$ to find used and install. People through different in the 50's and power steering, remotes etc were not seen as necessary.

If you bought a true 435 for that price you got a steal. Most of them I have seen sell, even in very rough condition, start a $5000 and go up from there. I am not sure they made a 435 industrial. It could be a 440.

Price sounds fair. I bought mine about 3 years ago and paid 4500 for it. It had a rebuilt engine, remote hydraulics,3 point hitch and live pto.
