4320 smoking

We just bought a '71 4320 and it smokes blue smoke. We've been plowing with it and it leaves a cloud of blue as I go. The first thing I thought was maybe the oil was too thin, the previous owner has 10W-30 in it. So, we changed it to 15W-40, (what we run in all of our diesel tractors), and it still smokes. OK, so we think maybe it's burning oil. Ran it 2 days in a row all day on the plow and it hasn't burned a drop. Then, we think maybe it has dirty injectors. We then pour a jug of injector cleaner into and it still doesnt clear up. Any ideas as to why it keeps smoking? Also, it runs like a top, runs great.

I agree. Check your air filter FIRST, but I feel that you already did that. It does take air to combust.

This is just a wild guess, but if you have an oil bath air cleaner, the oil could be drawn out of there. Oil could be too thin or you've got water in it raising the oil level. I know nothing about a 4320, so if you've got a paper filter, disregard this suggestion.

Well if you say it is using no oil it must be something related to fuel. Injector cleaner for diesels are all but a joke. You have a few options, either the injectors have carbon buildup affecting the spray pattern, or the injectors have too low of an opening pressure keeping the tip from making a good spray pattern. Your last option would be valve adjustment, but I would pull those injectors and have them checked first for spray pattern, and opening pressure. your local diesel shop should be able to perform this task. The best of luck
