I got my first JD this week and know nothing about green tractors. On a 1943 B with a mag is the top wire #1 and the left side of engine looking from the drivers seat #1? thanks John

John, Youre right and as clooney posted, thats the original and usual plug wire orientation. If you try n start her and she pops n bangs and backfires and maybe kicks the flywheel backwards, the mag may be instaled 180 out (they fit in either correct or 180 out into the governors female drive cog/slot). If so and it happens to be like a Wico C or XH series non gear reduction drive mag, a simple plug wire reversal will make them run, or else you can remove the mag and rotate it or the flywheel 180 and reinstall her. If its some of the other gear reduction drive mags and its in 180 out, it will not run even with a wire reversal and has to be re installed correctly.

Good Luck n God Bless

John T

John, usually the top plug wire from the mag is supposed to go to the L/H [flywheel side spark plug]..

~If your "B" has a Wico C or X [XH] mag it really doesn't matter though as long as it runs.. With the Wico C or X mag it's possible to initially install those mags 180 out of time & just reverse the plugs wires so the top wire goes to the R/H side & then engine will operate properly..

~On all the gear reduction mags like the Edison Splitdorf, Fairbanks Morse, or Wico AP, then the L/H side plug wire must go to the proper mag tower, either top or front depending on the mag.
