ANDY, All 4040's that were built in Waterloo Iowa were manufactured with 404 engines. There are some European built 4040's around that have 359 engines in them but these tractors were not built in the US. The Waterloo built 4040 was the last American built John Deere farm tractor to use the 404 engine. The 4050 was originally built with a 466 non turbo engine and later changed to a 359 turbo engine. Just some facts on this issue, hope this helps. DW

jose, You are correct that the 4040 359 version was built in Germany. The (4050) was built in Waterloo with both the 466 and 359 engine. There also may have been a 4050 German built version as well and was never imported to the USA. The German version of the 4040 was more common to the USA 2940/2950 Manheim built tractors only with a turbo. The 4050 359 engine tractor was a Waterloo built tractor with a Dubuque built 359 engine available with the 15 speed Waterloo built Powershift transmission. A little more information. DW

I think all 4040s had 466s, then the 4050 started with 466s and went to 359s,,,bill
